As I continue my fall home reorganization efforts, I’m moving to the kitchen. My focus is to clear the cutter on the counters, reorganize the pantry and get rid of the corner trashcan. Let’s start with the eyesore trashcan.

Get Rid of the Corner Trash
I’ve been wanting to get rid of my corner trashcan for years but didn’t have the ready-made cabinet space for it. All of my lower cabinets are doubles and have a shelf.
After some inspection and rearranging, I finally went for it and removed the shelf, cutting it in half with a circular saw, which wasn’t any big issue like I thought it would be. If you have a sturdy hand saw, that will work too.
I purchased a bottom mount pull out trashcan made by Rev-A-Shelf, which is sold by Home Depot. I originally purchased a top mount by accident but then realized I didn’t have the single cabinet space with walls on both sides for that type of install. However, if you are a working with a single cabinet space, you could use either option.
The install was straight-forward and took less than an hour. If only I had known how easy the project would be, I would have done it when we first moved in two years ago.
Rev-A-Shelf has any type of cabinet accessory imaginable, including pull out spice racks, Lazy Susans, and drawer organizers so if you are working with standard builder grade cabinets, it’s a great source to customize your kitchen.

Pantry Organization
Next up has been organizing the pantry. While I have some storage racks I use for snacks, I’m sometimes in a hurry when unloading groceries and don’t always put everything in the proper spot. I noticed I was coming home from the grocery store only to realize I had two more of it tucked in the back of the pantry so realized it was time for a reorg.
My kids go through snacks like there is no tomorrow so I need height to stack more into one shelf area. These wire racks are great for snack organization as they come with dividers and my kids can pull out the drawer to find what they want after each school day. Other options that I like: clear pull out cabinet organizers (little things won’t fall through the wire) and larger equivalent.
I also purchased clear food storage containers from Amazon so I could better see how much food was left in boxes for items like cereal, rice, and crackers.
Clearing the Countertop Clutter
Meanwhile, my pantry is overloaded with any type of spice you can imagine. My husband is the main chef in the house so I won’t tell him what he needs but the spices were taking up a whole shelf in a small pantry space.
To help free up both shelf and countertop space, I purchased a cabinet door mounted 3 shelf spice rack, also by Rev-A-Shelf and sold by Home Depot, along with a bamboo spice drawer organizer from Amazon.
I also did a purge of my utensils organizer, throwing out the cookware that was past its lifetime.
Overall, I’m working towards my goal of a cleaner, less cluttered looking kitchen.
